Description: This antibody stains individual Helicobacter pylori which are spiral-curved, gram-negative bacteria that are present on the surface epithelium of the mucous layer of the stomach. H. pylori is strongly associated with inflammation of the stomach and is also implicated in the development of gastric malignancy as well as causing peptic ulcers and chronic gastritis. Reports have also implicated H. pylori infections in the development of adenocarcinoma and low-grade lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue in the stomach.
The small spiral-curved shaped bacterium can be seen clearly using a 100X oil objective under the microscope.
