Description: This antibody is highly specific to cytokeratin 8 (CK8), which belongs to the type II (or basic) subfamily of high molecular weight cytokeratins and frequently exists in combination with cytokeratin 18 (CK18). In normal tissue, CK8 is primarily expressed in ductal and glandular epithelia, such as colon, stomach, small intestine, trachea, and esophagus, but not with squamous epithelium, skeletal muscle, or nerve cells. CK8 is also expressed in neoplastic epithelia and is present in the majority of adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas while absent in squamous cell carcinomas.
